"Diamonds" is a song from the famous Barbadian artist Rihanna. The singer recorded it throughout the year 2012 at the Westlake Recording Studios, in Los Angeles and at the Roc the Mic Studios, in New York City. The Australian songwriter Sia met with producer Benny Blanco with the intention of composing a song which would be different from everything else that Rihanna worked on before, but one that would resemble Kanye West's. According to the record producer: "It's the one that we weren't thinking Rihanna... that turned into the Rihanna record... But that's how it always happens like with me". The writing for the lyrics took only 14 minutes. Rihanna recorded the song with Marcos Tovar, while Kuk Harrell was the one to produce the vocals. Sia was assisted by Tor Erik Hermansen, Benjamin Levin and Mikkel S. Eriksen into writing the lyrics. "Diamonds" was released on September 27th, 2012 as the first single from the album "Unapologetic". It initially appeared on the television show "Elvis Duran and the Morning Show".
"Diamonds" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the US Rhythmic chart, the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart, the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the UK Singles Chart and many others. The song was an international hit, reaching number one in Portugal, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Luxembourg, France, Canada, Germany, Austria, Belgium and numerous other countries. The single sold over 3 million copies in the United States alone, where it was certified four times platinum as well as in Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and five times platinum in Australia.
