En otras palabras, un dialecto es una variante, modificación o modalidad de la lengua que se habla en una región determinada. El Instituto Lingüístico de Invierno reitera: "un dialecto es una variedad de una lengua; así, el castellano de Lima, el de Madrid o el de Medellín son dialectos del castellano". Y también aclara: "Pero existen personas para quienes una lengua es aquella que goza de prestigio social y un dialecto el que no tiene ese prestigio. De ese modo, no dudarán en referirse al castellano o al inglés como una lengua o un idioma, y al náhuatl o al totonaco como un dialecto ". Por ello, y especialmente en el Día Internacional de la Lengua Materna hay que puntualizar que tanto el Náhuatl o el Maya como el Español son lenguas, y que aplicar mal los términos podría significar es un acto de discriminación lingüística. "Y esta discriminación lingüística esconde, en el fondo, una discriminación hacia los hablantes", concluye el citado instituto.

He is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin -Milwaukee, and has public accounting experience with Deloitte & Touche (Minneapolis). He was the recipient of the UWM School of Business Advisory Council Teaching Award and the Reggie Taite Excellence in Teaching Award, and is a three-time winner of the Outstanding Teaching Assisting Award at the University of Wisconsin. He is also a recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Award for Honorary Distinction for his results on the CPA exam. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and has published articles in Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, Advances in Management Accounting, Managerial Finance, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Accounting Education, as well as other journals. His research interests include accounting for financial instruments and innovation in accounting education.
